So far I am having a bellow with my new machine. It came well packaged with all the extras in a fast timley manner. The possiblities are uninterrupted with this machine. I say comprehensive because Brother needs to work on their instructions. It would help first time users if they made a DVD to explain certain functions. This is my aid Brother, the first is a sewing machine,so I knew my way around a little. I am very pleased with the machines themselves. I love the designs and have had no trouble with the on put up features. That part was easy.
But the 15,109 Embroidery Designs that came as a gift is another story! I can get them to download on my USB prankster but not to the machine!!! Of course the instructions are very limited to beginners on computers. They assume you recollect what to do when your computer doesn't recognize the file names and how to change them. I need to find a help forum to lodestar me a little more.

The Brother 400D is a marvellous little lightweight machine that both sews and embroiders. You can carry it everywhere because it is not heavy. It has enough stitches and buttonholes also built in to keep you intricate, not to mention some Pooh designs and other miscellaneous designs. You can also use it with the memory card to sew out any design you need. It's great for the money and the size.

Smashing combo machine for the price!
I purchased this instrument some time ago. This was the first machine I purchased that was able to embroider. I found it very easy to use even though it had lots of features and new stitches built right in - even with Pooh/Disney designs! You can also use purchased Brother embroidery design cards - so what you can embroider is almost continual. I also purchased an extra-large sized hoop for doing larger designs. I've been trustworthy happy with the embroidery unit and other decorative stitches it does, but sometimes the feed dog seems to "slip" with thicker framework like denim. I'm not sure, but this may be just a problem with my machine, and I intend to bring it in to be serviced since it is due anyway. But other than that one quandary... I think the machine is certainly a great bargain for the price. It is also easy to perform anywhere.... super light weight with a cover that slips over and protects while in storage or ravish! I do alterations as a business and have used it to do just about most of the jobs - even bridal gowns. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this speck Brother machine w/Disney embroidery designs. I just purchased the Brother PE Basic so that I can download designs from the internet (either unfettered or purchased ones) and transfer the design and put it on a Brother memory card. Then, you just slip the reminiscence card into the slot on the machine and stitch away. I plan on making my own appliques for wedding accessories and/or dresses that customers want added to or changed in some way. This will give me the ability to customize anything I sew or pattern for myself, family or customer. This machine gives you lots of freedom to do what you want it to do!

Brother PE-400D Embroidery Make
Although I betrothed my other Brother combo embroidery machines, this one was off putting.
The sewing features all "seamed" to work just fine, but when I did some embroidering I was not blithe.
The machine case was over heating and I could not hold my hand on the case between Pooh and the screen - yes, it was that hot!
It then started smelling of blazing wires - not the normal burn off of manufacturing oils.
So off the machine went and after it cooled down enough I re-packaged it and sent it back!

Brother PE400D - A Passionate Machine
Wow...When I first got this utensil and looked at all the stuff that came with it, I was a bit intimidated by it all. But, a quick view of the enclosed CD and an hour or so of playing around with it, and I had no unmanageable. I starting using the decorative stitches and embroidery designs right away. The machine runs very smoothly...a existent joy after 25 years on an old Singer. Great machine.

Heinous Little Machine! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
I've had the Brother PE 400D for a bit over a year now. It is a outstanding little machine. I have NEVER had any needle breaking issues. I'm not sure if the writer of the previos hang up with that issue was using the correct needle (you need to use an embroidery needle with the embroidery presser foot for embroidery, and you must usse a sewing plunger, and coordinating presser foot for general sewing).
The embroidery comes out wonderful. The Winnie the Pooh embroidery patterns that are included are sweet, there are also plenty of pre-set stitches, different lettering fonts, etc.
You can also purchase additional Brother memory cards of numerous subjects: Holidays, Nature, Flowers, etc. Once you get more familiar with embroidery, you may want to purchase the Brother PED-Basic which allows you to download Without embroidery patterns from the internet, copy them onto a memory card (included) and then place that memory be open into your Brother PE-400D. There are MANY things you can do with this great little machine.
This machine is very easy to use. It is my first embroidery/sewing machine combo and I fianc the touch pad screen. This machine also comes with a DVD instructional video which is very helpful.

Major machine for the price.
I didn't need to spend too much on an embroidery machine before knowing if it would be something that would get a lot of use. Although I don't have a dedicated sewing room I opted against getting a combo embroidery/sewing contrivance because I already had a regular machine. I spent almost a year researching machines and the major selling point besides charge was that it takes a thumb drive. It was really easy to get started without having to study the instructions too extensively. I hate anything with a steep learning curve because I have very little time to sew. I don't want to dissipate my precious time reading the manual. I had been looking at Babylocks, but regardless of what the Babylock sales person said, the Brother machines show identical and much less expensive. I don't have time to take classes (an advantage of buying from a dealer) so I went for the cheaper Brother. Also, Babylock doesn't drummer this model as a stand alone embroidery machine. The PE770 is the same as the BL Ellure Plus without the sewing machine. The set up is undeniably easy and I immediately began stitching out some of the preloaded designs. The stitch quality is bad. The preloaded designs are dominated by the "cutsie" stuff that isn't really my cup of tea. Who wants a garment with a teddy back up a survive playing accordion on a tree stump? I downloaded some cool designs from a website and put them on the thumb tour. It was very easy to transfer them to the machine and sew them even though we don't own a PC. My husband found a program for Macs so I was able to see the image and the go red chart on the Mac. We can run PC programs on one of our Macs and I will probably get Embird soon. Given the fact that it is a debase-end model there are some downsides. The image is in black & white on the machine's display. Also, the image barely looks like a blob. There is very little editing on the machine itself. I am interested to know if the embroidery software will choose that less of a problem. I haven't ventured into trying to place designs in an exact spot yet. The embroidery hoop comes with a grid to assistants with that but I haven't figured out how to do it. Once the thread broke and it was really easy to figure out how to get back to where it was and restitch it. If I end up using it a lot I might long run consider a fancier machine but I think I made a good choice for a beginner. The automatic threader is noteworthy! The seller (Ken's via Amazon) sent some information about different types of stabilizer that was very helpful. I rightful wish I had more time to play with this fun machine.

Brother PE-770 Embroidery Implement - LOVE IT !!!
I devotion this machine!! It was incredibly easy to set up and performed just like the instruction catalog said it would. The designs look great. It's easy to increase and decrease size and exchange threads, etc. I've never used an embroidery machine, but this is fun! It's easy to download designs from the internet and try them on the machine. The only riddle I've had was the skipping of some stiches on the patterns, but I believe this is due to the poor material I was using for practice. My only grouse is I wish I'd known how much I'd love this as I would have bought a bigger one!
